Preceding him in death were his father Fred Hale (Packer), and mother Minnie Packer, siblings, Harry Singleton, Leroy Hill, Jonathan Packer, Annie Rand, Nellie Rand, Minnie Packer, Ella Packer, Martha Packer, Isaac Packer, as well as his loving wife of 32 years Mrs. Catherine Williams Packer. At a young age James was baptized in St. Luke Baptist Church, Pastor R. E. LeSure, (currently, Pastor Buford Hall) where he served faithfully.
James graduated from Williamson High School in 1963, and was a retiree of the Mobile Public School System, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. James” by all that loved him. Throughout his lifetime James has held several positions in the field of labor, as he was given the name “Jack of all trades” and his latest position held was for Service Master.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons, James F. Packer, Las Vegas, Nevada, Adrian M. Martin, San Jose, California, daughters Ophelia T. Packer, Mobile, AL, bonus daughter Chizelle T. Archie, Atlanta, GA: siblings John Packer (Ida) East St. Louis, Ill; sisters-in-laws, Mary C. Williams, Linda J. Williams, both of Mobile AL, and Polly Williams, Jacksonville, FL; brothers-in-law, Reginald T. Williams (Elizabeth), San Antonio, TX, David L. Williams, Alpharetta, GA, Herbert Bennett, Mobile, AL; God daughter, Tencie Wilcox, other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends, one devoted friend Linda Marshall.
A visitation for James will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy, Mobile, Alabama 36605, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel.
