James Martin Older entered Heaven’s gates on February 24, 2019 at the age of 71. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Bay, Alabama. James was an active member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church and The Gideon’s International Association. He lived his life with a servant’s heart and was dedicated to spreading the love and word of God to others. After his service in the United States Air Force, James started his career in agriculture. He had a lifelong passion for farming and the outdoors, but his love for his family was above all.
James will be remembered by his loving wife of 40 years, Annie Dockens Older; his daughters, Tammy (Gordon) Hester, Wendy Wedgeworth, and Juanita (Rick) Smith; grandchildren, Joey, Laura, Daniel, Andrew, Katelin, Nicole, Kellie, Evan and 10 great-grandchildren; his mother, Lillian Williams Older; brothers, Michael (Bettye Anne) Older and Doug (Susan) Older; and his sister, Linda Older; Aunts, Vivian Williams Beech, Kate Williams Martin, Maxine Webb-Pickering; Uncles, Nolan Williams and William Older; and special friends, Janice and Jerry Frisbey. James was preceded in death by his father, Carl Edward Older, and sister, Nell (James) Sikes.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lee Thompson, Dr. Charles Johnson, Dr. Jeffery George, MIMC Interventional Radiology Department, and Kindred Hospice – nurse Ashley Sims, for their excellent care.
Visitation for James will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in Mobile on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 9:00am to 11:00am with the funeral service to immediately follow. Graveside service will be held at Godwin - Bratt Cemetery in Bratt, Florida at 2:30pm. Pallbearers include Kevin Foster, Lonnie Biggs, Joey Peffer, Jerry Frisbey, Greg Stoll, and Scott Older. Honorary Pallbearers include the Mobile chapter of the Gideons International Association. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The Gideons International Association for the Bible distribution program.
