James Virgil Stowe, Jr. – a 76 year-old native of Mobile and a longtime resident of Orange Beach and Fairhope passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Mr. Stowe was a 1961 graduate of Murphy High School and 1966 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Pharmacy. Upon graduation from Auburn University, he returned to Mobile and began working as a pharmacist. In 1974, he purchased Nixon Drugs on Old Shell Road and operated it until 2004.
Mr. Stowe was a member of several mystic societies, the Rotary Club of Mobile, and the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger. He was not shy about his love for Auburn and time spent with family and friends.
Mr. Stowe is preceded in death by his parents, James Virgil Stowe, Sr. and Juanita Roberts Stowe, and sister, Linda Carol Stowe. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Wilanne Stowe; children, Elizabeth Stowe and Jennifer Stowe of Mobile, and James (Jay) Stowe, III (Leah) of Birmingham; and grandson, James Stowe, IV.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Monday, March 16, 2020, from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be held in Magnolia Cemetery on Tuesday, March 17, at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Auburn University Marching Band, 317 South College St., Auburn, AL 36849 or Furrever Homes Animal Rescue, 13147 Breman Rd., Elberta, AL 36530.
