James Edison Dyess, Sr. passed away peacefully at home December 6th 2014 at the age of 94. He was born in rural Wayne County, Mississippi on July 19, 1920, the youngest child of James L. and Alice McRae Dyess. This veteran, husband and father is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Emogine Lee Dyess and children Gay Suzanne Dyess (Wayne) Dean, James Edison (Roxann) Dyess, Jr., Darlene Dyess, two grandchildren Katherine Mae Holston (Ronnie) Clausheide, Benjamin Forrest Holston and one great grandson James Luke Clausheide. A World War II veteran, he served in the United States Navy primarily aboard the USS New Jersey where he participated in the Marianas Campaign and the Battle of the Philippines Sea. Upon his discharge he made Mobile his home for six plus decades. He was honored to be a participant on Honor Flight Six in September of 2011. James E. Dyess was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Boy Scott Leader and friend. He also held various leadership positions in his beloved Overlook Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home Wednesday, December 10th, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 11th at Isney Baptist Church, 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Overlook Presbyterian Church may be made in his memory. He was dearly loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
