I used to love it when Aunt Margie and Uncle Jim and my cousins came  to visit. Mom would always throw rolls at the dinner table and my cousins would squeal in delight because they knew there was nothing Uncle Jim could do about it. He would always say “ don’t get used to it”. Of course when Uncle Frank was there too it erupted in chaos. I miss those days. Love to all my family. 

Back in the 1970’s, the Crumps house was ground zero for a teenager!  Mrs. Margie, as I referred to her, always welcomed me into her home.  She would feed me and council me.  There were nights when Jimmy and I would be studying in his bedroom when Mr. Crump would knock on the door and tell us to turn the music down.  Jimmy had a record player!  Mr. Crump also installed a CB radio on Jimmy’s car with the long whip antenna. We would spend countless hours at night talking CB talk to the truckers passing through.
Mr. Crump was a very intelligent man.  There wasn’t anything worth fixing that he couldn’t fix.
The one thing though that set Mr. Crump apart for me was his work as an auxiliary policeman.  Reggie Quimby will tell you that working with teenagers during that era was ....challenging,   Many nights we would be hanging out at the Crump’s house when Mr. Crump would get in from a shift of police work. The sight of him in that police uniform and his badge, encouraged me to ask him questions about the bad guys.  He was always gentle in his replies to say to us to always stay on the right side of the law.  His advice and Mrs. Margie’s prayer power on you - there was little room to make the wrong decisions.  My parents never did mind if I was at the Crump’s house because they knew how Godly they ran their home.

Mr. Crump it is a comforting thought to know that you are in the presence of God and Mrs. Margie, along with Anna.

Jim and his wife Marjorie (“Margie” to us) were our backyard neighbors in Mobile back in the 70’s when their kids were still at home and our kids were babies and toddlers. Because of Margie’s very outgoing personality, we became close friends, and, I often made the trek over to their house for visits. Jim, the less talkative of the two, was still a very present husband and father, who welcomed our visits and joined in the fellowship whenever we were in their home. There were many conversations about faith and church (we were members of the same church, where Jim was a deacon and my husband was on staff). The Crump boys were in the youth program my husband directed. Anna was younger, and, often assisted her Mom in watching our 3 little boys when needed, and, she sometimes came to our house alone to visit. In a word, the Crumps were kind and gracious; and, they were wonderful neighbors to us. Later, we moved away, but stayed in touch with the Crumps. Then, after both Anna’s and Margie’s death years later; after the boys had moved to other cities to pursue their careers, for many years we enjoyed staying in touch with Jim when presented with the opportunity. We are saddened by Jim’s passing, but, we know that the Lord welcomed him home, saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” Our love and prayers are with Jimmy and David, and their families.
