James William Coker, age 84, a native of Newton, MS and a resident of Semmes, Alabama, passed away at home on December 31, 2013, after losing his battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Isom and Lottie B. Coker and his sister, Ruth Marie Pippin. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy T. Coker, one son, James Allen (Judy) Coker, Sr., of Mobile, 2 daughters, Renee (Mack) McInnis of Semmes, and Jana Lynn (Shawn) Bennett of Turnerville, one sister, Rebecca (David) Thomas of Minden, LA, 9 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, as well as other relatives, and many friends.
James served in the Army National Guard in the31st MP Co 31st Infantry Division. He worked as a millwright at ALCOA in Mobile, and retired from there after 35 years of service.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, shrimping, and four wheeling. He loved his family and they will miss him immensely.
Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2 PM. Visitation will start at 12 noon. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
