Jack Burton McDonald

Jack Burton McDonald, Sr. age 90, a long-time resident of Mobile and a native of Newnan, Georgia, died peacefully on January 30, 2024. He was a graduate of Auburn University with a degree from the School of Engineering. Jack served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the latter part of the U.S. occupation. He retired from the Corps of Engineers of Mobile after more than 30 years of service. While at the Corps, Jack received many commendations for the performance of his duties as Chief of the Manpower and Management Branch. He was a member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, where he was active for many years in the usher program and the Meals-On-Wheels ministry. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert H. McDonald of Newnan, Georgia; brothers, Robert H. McDonald, Jr., of Wadley, Georgia; and Dr. James Kenneth McDonald of Augusta, Georgia. Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Northcutt McDonald; his son, Jack Burton McDonald, Jr. (Laura) of Birmingham, Alabama; and his two grandchildren, Katherine Elisabeth McDonald and Jack Burton McDonald, III. A private graveside service will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dauphin Way United Methodist Church.
