She had 101 years on Earth, she lived through The Depression when she delivered eggs for her family as a child and through many wars, including World War II, the golden age of television, and the advent of the computer age. She told amazing stories of growing up, marrying her high school sweetheart, Ralph, and their wonderful life together. Irma had a soft heart for animals and always had at least one cat. She loved to cook for people and had great pleasure in watching them enjoy her creations!
Followed by her love for Jesus and her husband, was the great love she had for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She loved all children and enjoyed teaching them in Sunday school and as a substitute in elementary school.
Her favorite spot in the house was the front screened porch where she spent many early mornings reading her Bible and listening to the birds wake up, usually with a cat by her side. She loved throwing parties and casual get-togethers on the porch for family and friends and welcomed any child to enjoy playing on her porch and swinging on her porch swing.
In Heaven waiting to join her were her mother, Camilla Barnes Edge; father, William Arthur Edge; a brother, Wilmer; three sisters, Edmonia, Margaree, and Jessie Lee; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, son, Chris (Tamara); as well as many friends.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Ralph Harold Jr. (Mary, deceased); daughter Mereau (Fred); granddaughter, Margaret Stevens (Todd); grandson, Frederic Tacon III (Jeanette); grandson, Maurice Harold (Megan); great-granddaughter, Noelle Harold (Joseph); great-grandson, great-grandson, Joel Harold, great-grandson, Ben Tacon; great-granddaughter, Autumn Tacon; great-great-granddaughter, Ava Gill; great-great-grandson, Cameron Gill; great-great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Chinkers; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.
Our family cannot express enough our gratitude to all of the health care providers who took care of Irma with great love, gentleness, and respect – first, Lisa of Peace of mine and her team, then SAAD’s, and during Irma’s last few weeks, Amedisys Hospice were all God’s angels on Earth who helped her have the fullest life possible until God’s angels from Heaven came to escort her home.
