Greer was one of the most exceptional people that only come around once in a lifetime. His giving heart and thoughtful nature left an indelible mark on this Earth. He left everything and everyone better than he found them and the world was a better place with him in it.
Greer was an amazing loving, devoted husband. He and his wife Candy had a love affair and marriage that spanned across 31 years. Their marriage was one people aspire to. Their exceptional relationship was an example to us all and a loyal love between two people rarely seen. It was an inspiration to be around.
Greer was also a devoted and loving father to Greer H. Butler Jr. and Bridgette Parker. Greer Sr. was the first good man his son, Greer, ever loved. It is because of his father’s on going goodness, true, deep, unconditional love, strong bond, work ethic, morals and constant presence that Greer is the man, husband, father and son he is today. Greer Sr’s love and kindness was contagious.
His deep love and bond with his daughter Bridgette was one to also be envied. They were both fiercely protective of each other’s physical and emotional well being. Always watching over and taking care of each other. Bridgette entered this World through Greer Sr’s heart where she remained throughout his lifetime. Their connection was true and pure.
Known to them as PaPa Choo Choo and Paw Paw, another one of Greer’s greatest loves was that for his 5 grandchildren, Blakley Fleming Parker, Helen Elizabeth (Hutton) Butler, Brockton Lee Parker, Griffin Marie Butler and his namesake, Greer Hardin Butler (female). Between fishing, throwing the kids in the pool and practical joking, his silliness, huge sense of humor and deep love for them, as well as their friends, will indefinitely remain imprinted on their hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Forrest Butler and Mary Elizabeth Hardin Butler. He is survived by his wife, Candy Teufel Butler; son, Greer Hardin Butler Jr.; daughter, Bridgette Williams Parker; daughter- in-law, Mary Kelley Butler; step-son, Deryck Keith Jackson; brother, Lewis Forrest Butler Jr.; sister, Margaret Butler Everidge; grandchildren listed above and nieces and a nephew.
Greer was an Alum of Vigor Highschool class of 1963. He was a dedicated and faithful employee of L&N/CSX Railroad for 32 years. His work ethic was impeccable and he was extremely dedicated to his job.
