Geraldine Collins Houston – a 91 year-old lifelong resident of Mobile, born September 24, 1920 to the late Eli and Regina Collins, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012. She was the former longtime owner and operator of Gigi’s Beauty Shop and operated a trailer park as well. Following her retirement, she served as a substitute teacher for 25 years at Murphy High School and baked cakes and pies for several local restaurants. Mrs. Houston was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and a past-president and queen of a local mystic society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Causey Houston; brother, Seibert Collins; and sisters, Naomi McMillian Brown and Mildred Hammac. Mrs. Houston is survived by her children, Causey Houston (Judith), of Indio, CA; Stanley Houston (Beth) of Mobile, and Newton Houston (Martha) of Houston, TX; sister, Edith Stacey of Mobile; brothers, Carlton Collins of Frisco City, AL and Manuel Collins of Jasper, AL; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Spiller officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Stan Houston, Jr., Ken Houston, Steve Houston, Brett Houston, Jake Houston, Lonnie Stacey, and Donald Stacey.
