She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman (Kit) Douglas Carson, son, Whit Carson and grandson Brad Colson.
Mrs. Carson, a longstanding member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is survived by daughter Sarah (Sally) Carson Jenkins and her husband Howard Jenkins, Granddaughter Jamie Anne Colson, and great granddaughter Anna Grace Colson, of Mobile; sister-in-law Mrs Carl Hosey “Dodie” and cousin Yvonne Kirkland of Birmingham; cousin Dale Price and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Anne was a graduate of Bessemer High School and attended Business College In Birmingham, lived in Birmingham for over 30 years and worked for the Pullman Company in Bessemer prior to moving to Mobile in 1959.
On arriving in Mobile, Anne, together with other Episcopalian church members established St. Luke’s Church.
Not content with just having help found a church, in 1961 Anne, was the leading light or “Founding Mother” of The Episcopal School, now St. Luke’s Episcopal School. From the inception and birth of the School until a well-deserved retirement in 1986, Anne held just about every non-teaching position of note in the School from Bookkeeper to Headmistress. The legacy of Anne Carson lives on today in the establishment that includes a High School in addition to the Kindergarten/Elementary School founded back in 1961, she is honored in the name of “Carson Hall” at the Lower School and in the history of the School on their website.
She lived in Sierra Bonita in Mobile for over 50 years where she has many longtime friends and was affectionately known around the neighborhood as “Mrs. C”.
From 1949 until 2009, Anne was an active Member of Beta Sigma Phi, a non-academic sorority that seeks to personally grow and enrich the lives of others. Awarded by Mobile City Council in 2009 for her 60 years of service, there can be no doubt that Anne fulfilled the expectation to “not only give the best that is in us to ourselves and our sorority, but to give the best that is in us to our world.” Everywhere Anne went one always heard comments from people on what a delight and wonderful person Anne was.
Visitation will be held Tuesday June 6th 2017 at 1:00 pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1050 Azalea Road Mobile, Alabama 36693 with service to follow at 2:00pm. Interment will be at Pine Crest Cemetery.
