Fred D. Wright - born November 7, 1928, of Mobile, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father William W. Wright, mother Mayme Hardy Wright Barker, and wife Melba June Smith. He is survived by his companion of 16 years, Rose Ann Smith; sons Don (Melissa) Wright of Murfreesboro, TN, Wade (Sandra) Wright of Mobile, and daughter Kaye Wright Steger of Chattanooga, TN, brothers, Billy (Barbara) Wright of Huntsville, Harold (Jeanine) Wright of Ochlockne, GA, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred grew up in the Oakdale Community of Mobile and graduated from Murphy High School before attending Union University, where he met his future wife Melba Smith. A veteran of the outdoor advertising industry in Mobile and Nashville, TN; Fred served as President of the Mobile Advertising Federation and the Nashville Advertising Federation (Recipient of the Silver Medal Award from both); President of Mobile and Nashville Sales and Marketing Executives; and a member of the Sertoma Club in Nashville. Fred was a long time member of a Mobile Mardi Gras Mystic Society. In the last few years he served as a volunteer at Infirmary West and Providence Hospital, and was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church. Fred was an avid golfer most of his adult life and a member of Heron Lakes Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army Coastal Alabama Area Command, 1009 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36604. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home Wednesday, January 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the Funeral service in the chapel on Thursday, January 19, at 10:00 a.m. Burial following at Pine Crest Cemetery.
