Frances Cowley Smith, a native of Mobile, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Frances was a graduate of Little Flower Grammar School and Bishop Toolen High School. She married Ken Smith in 1966 and put him through pharmacy school at Auburn University where she worked in the Accounts Payable department in Samford Hall. After Ken’s graduation they returned to Mobile where she spent the rest of her life. Frances was a member the Azalea City chapter of the Smocking Arts Guild of America for many years. During her membership she served as a smocking instructor and chairman of the annual spring fashion show. Throughout her life Frances also enjoyed reading, playing and teaching Duplicate Bridge, creating stained glass art, and researching her family’s genealogical history.
She is preceded in death by her parents Billy and Orlean Cowley, and her son CK Smith. Frances is survived by her husband Ken Smith, daughter Kelly Smith, and sister Miriam Cowley Evans. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 28 from 5 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home on Friday, August 29 at 10am. Interment will be at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
