Don Stringfellow grew up as a young man during the Great Depression of the 1930’s. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 during World War II. Outside of his love and dedication to his family, he was most proud of his service as a veteran to our country.
He was a member of the Local Painter’s Union and eventually became its president. His last position was that of Business Agent until his retirement. Mr. Stringfellow had many friends as part of his Sunday School class at Moffett Road Baptist Church. He loved to garden raising many fruits and vegetables to provide to family and friends. Later in life, he set up a tomato stand to sell his vegetables. He met many friends through that small enterprise. He will be sadly missed by friends and loved ones.
Mr. Stringfellow was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Laura Jane Stringfellow; mother, Elva York; stepfather, Clifford York; sister, Sally Welborn; and his youngest son, Ted Lewis Stringfellow. He is survived by his son, Floyd Donald Stringfellow, Jr. (Debra); and five grandchildren, Ryan Stringfellow (Michelle), Jillian Stringfellow, Eric Stringfellow, Ashley Zimlich, and April Rieckman. In addition, he is survived by four great-grandchildren; nieces, Joyce Williamson and Betty Fletcher; and his little dog “Missy” who currently resides with his son. The family would like to thank everyone at Allen Health and Rehab for taking care of Mr. Don.
