Elizabeth Johnson Kaiser

Elizabeth Johnson Kaiser passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 after a 17-month battle of post-stroke complications and cancer. Liz was born the oldest child of Vivian Gilbert Johnson and Winfred H. Johnson Sr. on May 10, 1942 in Mobile, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Winfred H. Johnson Jr, and son Steven Gilbert Sutton. She is survived by her devoted husband Philip Kaiser, her loving daughter Dorothy Sutton Kauffman and family, her stepdaughter Lindy Kaiser Wiggins and family, her sister Dorothy Johnson Williams and family, and several nieces, nephews and other beloved family members and friends.

After graduating from Theodore High School in 1960, Elizabeth worked as a civilian servant for the US Air Force in locations all over the world including Ohio, Korea, Japan and then Tampa, FL before returning to Mobile to raise her family. She graduated from the University of South Alabama with her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychology, as well as her Master's in Business Administration, and worked as a Licensed Social Worker for the Social Security office Court of Hearings and Appeals for several years before retiring.

Elizabeth lived a full and vibrant life. She devoted her free time to her many hobbies and service activities, which included membership and three-time presidency of the Spring Hill Garden Club, membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving on the Mobile Symphony Committee, volunteering at Mobile Infirmary Hospital and the Mobile Rock and Gem Society, and actively attending SpringHill Baptist Church then Redeemer Episcopal Church services and events. She loved the theater, was an excellent cook, and could always be found working on a garden project, given that she was a Certified Master Gardener. She particularly enjoyed the time she spent on interests that she shared with her adoring husband, which included traveling around the country to play golf and participating in geological dig projects any chance they could get. When she finally took a spare moment for herself, she loved to relax in her sun room with a good book and a cup of tea, or maybe take nap in her favorite chair. She was a bright light, a force of nature, and she will be sorely missed.

Visitation for Elizabeth will be held on Tuesday, December 19 from 10:00 - 11:00 am at Pinecrest Funeral Home, located at 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, Alabama. Immediately following the visitation, the funeral service and interment will take place at 11:00 am at Pinecrest, after which attendees are invited to a brief lunch reception to celebrate Elizabeth's life.
