Edward Durham Smith

Mr. Edward D. Smith, age 84, passed away at his home on Friday, September 9, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Edd and Lena Belle Senn Smith, and brothers Vernon Senn and Johnny Smith. Mr. Smith served his country honorably in the United States Navy and retired after 40 years with International Paper Company. He was a longtime member of Springhill Baptist Church. He was an avid Alabama football fan, enjoyed Nascar, fishing and the Senior Bowl. His family will remember him as a loving family man. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary Evelyn Long Smith, children; Darlene Childers, Edward Smith, Jr. (Lyn) and Vicki Spence (Kurt). He is also survived by his brother, Adrian (Regina) Smith and Wayne Smith, eight-grandchildren; Angela, Christi, Nikki, Rachael, James, Amanda, Haley, Whitney and five great-grandchildren; Mary, Ryleigh, Lainey, Leighton, Bryson and other family and friends. Visitation will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.
