Dr. Harrison graduated from Henderson State University in 1960. He served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army (Medical Service Corps) from 1960 to 1964. He was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. While serving at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, he was promoted to first lieutenant.
Dr. Harrison received his M.B.A. degree from Southern Methodist University in 1964 and his Ph. D. degree from North Texas State University in 1974. When Dr. Harrison accepted a teaching position in the College of Business at the University of South Alabama in 1974, his family moved from Dallas to Mobile. Their children were raised in Mobile.
Dr. Harrison was Professor of Management at the University of South Alabama for forty-two years. He taught courses in management and labor relations. Dr. Harrison served as Chair of the Management Department for many years. Upon retirement, he was awarded the title Professor Emeritus, and continued to teach management courses.
Dr. Harrison is survived by Pat (Patricia Greenwood), his wife of fifty-five years, and three children, Gregory Edward Harrison (Stephanie) of Fairhope, Alabama; Rebecca Harrison Reed (Justin) of Clifton, Virginia; and Laura Harrison Byrd (Michael) of Great Falls, Virginia. He is survived by four grandchildren, Rowan and Emma-Graye Harrison of Fairhope and Ian and Clara Byrd of Great Falls, Virginia. He is survived by his brother, Fred Mac Harrison, of Arlington, Texas.
A visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin St. from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13. Funeral services will be held at Ashland Place United Methodist Church at 2:00 on Thursday, April 14. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
