Edith Day Underwood Eaton, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2024 in Irvington, Alabama. She was born to Arthur and Gladys Underwood on February 9, 1944 in Mobile. Edith was a Godly woman, and was very eager to meet her Lord and Savior. She was very simple in her ways, but always enjoyed being dressed to the nines – she loved pretty clothes, and stunning hair and make-up. Edith was an insurance underwriter for over 30 years, and in her later years, babysat. She enjoyed reading, especially anything that would guide her spiritually, and spent many hours with her bible. Edith enjoyed her solitude, but always invested in the conversations and lives of others. Even after many years of separation, she loved her ex-husband, Willie Gordon Eaton, and counted him as her best friend.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanie Darlene; parents; and one sister, Sherry Underwood McKenna (Randy Bragg).
Edith is survived by her three children, James Spottswood III (Marie), Gordon Glenn Eaton, and Mitzi Brown (Mike); grandchildren, Michael Brown, Mallory Brown, James Spottswood, Jeffrey Spottswood, and Jeremy Spottswood; numerous great-grandchildren; three nephews; and other cherished family and friends. The family would like to extend gratitude to her three nurses, Leila, Angela, and Brittany, for their extraordinary care and for becoming a part of their family.
Visitation for Edith will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mobile Animal Shelter.
