Doris P. Lucy, age 76, born on December 12, 1947 to the late Austin and Annie Mae Pettway of Mobile, Alabama departed this life on December 18, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Kimberley Reynolds, and one son, Devin Lucy; four grandchildren, Brandon Reynolds, Jaylen Reynolds, Zuri Fairley and Noah Bunn; one devoted sister,JoAnn Dunning, and three devoted brothers, Tommie Lee Pettway, Ronnie (Minnie)Pettway, Warren Pettway, and preceded in death by 3 brothers, Albert Pettway, Austin Pettway, Jr. and Corneilous Wayne Pettway, and one sister,Sarah Pettway also, a host of nieces, (two devoted … Andrea (Earl) Adams and Ladresta Montgomery) and nephews and cousins. She had many friends, and coworkers…two devoted… Alnetha Berry and Betty Jones.
Doris graduated from Rosa A. Lott High School in Citronelle, Alabama in 1964 at age 16 as the Valedictorian. She graduated from 20th Century Business College in 1965. She joined the United States Navy and served (1965-67) as a Personnelman in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA. She graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1974, with a B.A. in Psychology and in 1977 with a M.Ed. in Vocational Rehabilitative Counseling. She was a Licensed Bachelor Social Worker, and a Certified Forensic Counselor of the American College of Certified Forensic Counselors.
She served as President of the Juvenile Justice Association for Alabama Region III (1992-1999) State President JJAA (2000-2003) QA Committee Member of the Department Of Human Resources, Chief Probation Officer, Mobile County Juvenile Court {2005-2007), Supervisor for the Mobile County Youth Crisis Intervention Center (2007-2010), Supervisor/Training Officer (2010-2011), Supervisor, Mobile County Youth Crisis Intervention Center(2011) and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Epsilon Upsilon Chapter (1972).
Doris Lucy was not only faithful in the service to people, but also to God. She was a faithful member of the Nazaree Full Gospel Church Choir until her health challenged her in 2019 and she battled cancer until the Lord called her home December 18, 2023. Truly a life well spent…she was an inspiration to all the lives she touched…a life guided by God.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 says “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved the crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only me but all who have longed for his appearing.
A visitation for Doris will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama 36606. A visitation will occur Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Nazaree Full Gospel Church, 1695 West I-65 Service Road North, Mobile, Alabama 36618. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Nazaree Full Gospel Church, 1695 West I-65 Service Road North, Mobile, Alabama 36618.
Doris will be laid to rest in Serenity Memorial Gardens, Theodore, Alabama.
