Donald Fay Pierce, a lifetime resident of Mobile, Alabama peacefully departed this life on Thursday, February 5, 2015. To cherish his memory, he leaves his loving wife of 60 years, Norma Faye Scribner Pierce, a daughter, Kathryn Pierce Peake Tuttle (Lyles), three sons, Donald Fay Pierce, Jr (Stacie), John Charles Scribner Pierce, Sr., (Amber) and Jeffrey Grant Pierce (Sonia), grandchildren, Gerald Alton Peake, III (Caitlin), Patrick Pierce Peake (Emily), Elizabeth Kathryn Peake Scarbrough (Jay), Katherine Ellis Pierce, John Charles Spencer Pierce, Ethan James Frost, Gavin Lain Frost, Sarah Elizabeth Pierce, Jeffrey Grant Pierce, Jr. and great-grandson, John Gideon Peake as well as many devoted friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy Oliver Pierce and Lavada Gertrude Stringfellow Pierce and his grandson, John Charles Scribner Pierce, Jr. A graduate of Murphy High School and the University of Alabama, Mr. Pierce obtained his law degree in December of 1957 after serving in the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Mr. Pierce practiced law for 56 years throughout the country as a highly-respected trial attorney, known for his passion and dedication to his clients and as a tireless advocate for fairness in the civil justice system. He was a prolific writer, speaker and leader in numerous organizations dedicated to the defense of civil matters He served the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association as its President in 1975-76, the International Association of Defense Counsel, as the Director of its Trial Academy from 1983-84 and the Defense Research Institute, as its President and Chairman from 1987-88. He was a founding member of Lawyers for Civil Justice, and a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, Trial Attorneys of America, and the Products Liability Advisory Committee. He was ranked by his peers at the highest level of professional excellence and was listed in the Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who in the World. In addition to his family and the law, Mr. Pierce loved his church, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years at Spring Hill Baptist Church. He was an excellent storyteller, teacher, lawyer, friend, parent and, most notably, loving husband. Friends are invited to celebrate his life with a visitation at Spring Hill Baptist Church beginning at 12 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 and a Memorial Service to follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials to Spring Hill Baptist Church designated for the Spring Hill Singers.
