Donald Dane “D.D.” Carmichael – a 62 year-old native of Houston, TX and longtime resident of Mobile passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Mr. Carmichael was a 1966 graduate of McGill Institute. After high school, he played minor league baseball for the New York Mets organization where he caught for Nolan Ryan. Mr. Carmichael retired from the Alabama State Docks Terminal Railway as a trainman and engineer after 37 years of service. He was a Union Officer and Chairman of B.L.E. and served as a labor liaison for the Alabama State Docks. He is best remembered as the former owner/operator of Pat & D.D.’s Old Shell Inn. Mr. Carmichael was an avid Alabama fan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Patricia “Pat” “Tootsie” Carmichael. Mr. Carmichael is survived by five children, B.J. Adams (Spencer, III), Ronnie Clausheide (Katie Mae), Jack Clausheide, Sr. (Lisa), Pattie Dixon (Tim), and Danna C. Jones; mother, Marie Carmichael Roby; brother, Daniel D. Dodson (Joan S.); 10 grandchildren, Jack A. Clausheide, Jr. (Jessica), Brennen Bradshaw, Jenny Clausheide, Lindsey Clausheide, Shelton Clausheide, Daniel L. Jones, Kristi Broughton, Garrett Bradshaw, Cody Clausheide, and Luke Clausheide; great-grandson, Devin Connelly; nieces, Mary Angelina Dodson and Donna M. Jones; many other relatives and devoted friends. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Thursday, June 3, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Friday, June 4, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
