David Max Hoffman, Sr. entered eternal life with his Lord on September 17, 2024. He was born in Silas, AL on May 2, 1935, as the youngest of five children to David and Isadora Hoffman. He was baptized while attending Black Creek Baptist Church. His family moved to Mobile, AL just prior to his senior year, where he then graduated from Murphy High School in 1953.
David married his high school sweetheart, Jackie Bates, on December 21, 1956. With Jackie, he raised their three children and was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. David enjoyed time with family and friends through his 89 years of life.
He worked more than 50 years in the air conditioning and refrigeration trade. In the late 1970’s he started his own business, Hoffman’s Air Conditioning, Inc. With Jackie working alongside, he continued the business for 20 years until they both retired in 1998. They spent many years at Dauphin Island enjoying beach activities with children, grandchildren, family, and friends. They continued to travel together until Jackie entered late stages of Parkinson’s. He tirelessly cared for her until her death at their home in 2019.
David moved to Seymour, IN in early 2023 where he was cared for by his daughter and son-in-law, and the Lutheran Community Home. David is survived by their three children, Pam (Jimmy) Rodriguez, David Hoffman, Jr. and Brad (Donna) Hoffman. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Allison (John) Snyder, Adam (Kyla) Rodriguez, Andrew Rodriguez, Nathan Hoffman and Caroline Hoffman and 5 great grandchildren Riley Snyder, Carson Rodriguez, Madison Rodriguez, Nolan Snyder, and Mackenzie Rodriguez. Along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, he is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenny and Jeannie Godbold.
A visitation will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 1356 Government St, Mobile, AL 36604.
The Service of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 pm at the church with Rev. Wayne Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens, 5956 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, AL 36619 with Rev. Jimmy Rodriguez and Rev. Adam Rodriguez officiating.
