David Hawthorne Akridge, Sr.

David Hawthorne Akridge, Sr., husband of Ann Nibbs Akridge, died Monday, April 27, 2015. Born October 15, 1938 in Mobile, Al, David was the son of the late William Emory Akridge, Jr. and the late Frances Saynor Akridge. He graduated from The McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, and later attended Tulane University. He completed his education and graduated from the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University. David began his professional career working for First National Bank (now Regions), where he spent 24 years working in various positions throughout the bank, finishing as a Vice President in the commercial banking sector. As an entrepreneur, David spent the remainder of his career in the commercial and residential construction business which was his passion. He was a devoted husband and father, and long-time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mobile who fiercely loved, provided for and protected his family. David was known for his pointed sense of humor and his insistence on doing things right. His customers and business associates were as important to him as his family and friends. He was a man of Faith and lived by example for his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Ann Nibbs Akridge; his four sons Mr. David Hawthorne Akridge, Jr. and his wife Mrs. Neili Cole Akridge of Spartanburg, SC; The Reverend Alan McLeod Akridge and his wife Mrs. Kathleen Lawson Akridge of St. Simmons Island, Ga; Mr. Robert Herndon Akridge and his wife Dr. Alison Rester Akridge of Mobile, Al; Mr. William Emory Akridge, IV and his wife Mrs. Kristin White Akridge of Mobile, Al; grandchildren David Hawthorne Akridge III, Katherine McNeil Akridge, Margaret Wythe Akridge, Harrison McLeod Akridge, Meriwether Evans Akridge, Robert Herndon Akridge, Jr., Emory Frances Akridge, and Grayson Lee Akridge; Charlie and Lacey, his beloved King Charles Springer Spaniels. St. Paul's Episcopal Church will host a memorial celebration of his life at 11:00 am on Thursday April 30, 2015, followed by a reception in the parish hall.
