Danny Douglas Pearson, age 61 passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Terry and Bettye Sue Pearson, brothers; David Ray Pearson, Dennis Clayton Pearson and sister Denise Jean Pearson. He is also preceded by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Danny lived and worked on the water for most of his life. He retired as Captain of a supply boat in the oil industry. He was also a Merchant Marine and served a short time in the United States Navy. He navigated around the world many times and was self- taught in many languages. He navigated by the stars for many years before technology was introduced into the industry. In Danny’s own words he said, “I was a sea captain for 36 years. I have covered the earth, before it covered me….Mission accomplished! CHOW for now !!”
Because he was a Captain for so many years, he had to develop a tough exterior and yet his family and friends knew him as a kind, tenderhearted person. He was a funny jokester and made people laugh wherever he went. He also told fascinating stories of his travel adventures from around the world.
He was extremely generous on many levels and had a kind heart. He became the surrogate father to two of his nieces who loved him dearly. He loved music and loved playing the drums until he became ill.
Danny is survived by his siblings, Deborah Atwell (Richard), Dottie Sellars and Don Pearson. He is also survived by his nieces, Breanna Pearson, Kimberley Jackson (James), Dana Schaub (Ricky), Danielle Belfiore (Josh), Joanna Atwell, nephews; Donny Pearson (Jocelyn) and Joel Atwell and many friends all over the world.
A memorial visitation and service will be held at Radney Funeral Home –Dauphin Street, on Saturday, July 11, 2020, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
