Charles Delmar Layzod, a resident of Mobile, Alabama, died on April 17, 2024. Delmar was a Marine who proudly volunteered to serve during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Delmar worked for the City of Mobile Municipal Garage for 27 years, where he made many friendships. After retiring, he worked part time for Publix at Sunset Point, where he was known as “ the balloon man.” He loved visiting with customers and making balloons for the children. He made friends everywhere he went and never met a stranger. He always had a silly saying or joke ready to make everyone smile.
Delmar’s family would like to extend our thanks to his close friend and neighbor Ed Smith and his friend John “Chip” Dobson. Their friendships meant so much to Delmar and his family. He also had very important friendships with former fellow Marines who he reconnected with in more recent years - Ed Mehlig, Steve Luccio, and the late Mike Rush. Our family gives our most sincere gratitude to all of you and your families for your love and support.
Delmar was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife Marion Mackie Layzod. He is survived by his three children, Robert (Megan) Layzod, Leanne (Norris) Laurence, and Richard (Leigh Anne) Layzod; six grandchildren, Maggie Laurence, Michael Laurence, Kate Layzod, Marlee Stebbins, Logan Layzod, and Dylan Layzod, and many other relatives.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 9am to 11am at Radney Funeral Home inside of the D'Iberville Room on Dauphin St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
