Winston was born in Mobile, AL to Noah Ezra Johns, Sr. and Nellie (Bottter) Johns. He was an Agent for Allstate Insurance for 25 years. He is survived by his wife Reba Johns, to whom he has been married since 1989, and his six children; Vivian (Norris) Whitten, Debbie (Henry) Taylor, Sherrie (Richard) Thurgood, Christine Johns Wright, Charles Winston (Rhonda) Johns, Jr. “Rusty”, Darrin (Terry Dawes) Johns, as well as two step daughters, Wanda (Garry) Pace and Debbie (Gordy) Herring, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a long time friend to Colonel Dan Arzonico and Alabama House Representative Margie Wilcox as well as their families.
He is a Veteran and always had a tender spot in his heart for service men and women in uniform, and while dining out would frequently invite them over for a chat or offer to pay for their meal. He loved to laugh, tell jokes, and was an avid chess player. He relished the time he got to spend with his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Winston lived on Mobile Bay for 40 plus years and enjoyed admiring the views from his porch as the sun would rise and set. He loved playing the harmonica, listening to music and he always tried to find a way to make things work better.
He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Charities for donations in lieu of flowers to Childrens Healthcare, American Heart Association, Arthritis Foundation.
