Charles Christopher Baskin, 81, of Mobile, Alabama, passed peacefully on September 12, 2013.
Dr. Baskin enjoyed retirement in Mobile with family and friends. His professional career was highlighted as an expert in Seed Technology as an agronomist with Mississippi Agricultural Experiment Station, Professor of Agronomy with Mississippi State University, and Seed Technology consulting. Dr. Baskin is known globally for his contribution to cottonseed production and quality evaluation. His early positions with the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service as Assistant County Agent in Fayette and Mobile Counties set the stage for a long and productive career. Throughout he contributed to local, state, national, and international agricultural organizations as an officer in several capacities and was often recognized for his contributions. He was a graduate of Sumter County High School ('50), Alabama Polytechnic Institute (BS '54), Auburn University (Masters '63), and Mississippi State University (Ph.D. '70).
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Billie Boney Baskin as well as his daughter, Jeannine Baskin Weeks (Greg Weeks) and grandchildren, Emily Jeannine Weeks and Christopher Gregory Weeks; two brothers, David S. Baskin and Joe R. Baskin.
