Catherine Cane Buck Godwin - 93, died at her home Friday, February 17, 2012, having lived a full and victorious life. She had been a lifelong resident of Mobile, until she moved to Westminster Village in Spanish Fort three years ago. Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert L. Godwin, Jr.; son, Robert W. Buck; daughter, Ann B. Wolf and step-sons William Amos Buck, Jr. and Robert L. Godwin, III. She is survived by her children, Terry J. Buck (Iris); Barbara B. Bianco (A. Joseph); and Peter S. Buck (Rebecca); ten grandchildren, James A. Buck; W. V. Wolf, Jr.; Katherine (Sugah) W. Page; Rebecca W. Davis; Jason L. Buck; Lora M. Buck; A. J. Robinson; Justin P. Robinson; David B. Robinson and Edward M. Robinson; six great grandchildren; sister-in-law Dr. Betty G. Allen; the family of Dr. & Mrs. W. A. Buck, Jr. in Pawley's Island, S.C; Godwin and Crary relatives; and a multitude of nephews and nieces, descendants of the Peter J. Cane, Sr. clan; and numerous friends, especially those at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. In many ways Catherine was the backbone of the family and lived to exemplify the description of the worthy woman extolled in Proverbs 31, making certain her family was clothed, fed and sheltered; developing to the full extent the God-given talents of her hands, she sketched pen and ink drawings while studying art in New Orleans, drew floor plans as part of her responsibilities as a residential real estate agent for Roberts Brothers, designing and making decorations for the Mobile Opera Guild, the Tutankhamun Exhibit, crafts for the country fair, Chrismond Tree ornaments and altar kneelers for St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Catherine had a passion for beauty and making things beautiful as manifested in her gardening, quilting, needlepoint work and china painting. She was devoted to her family and the community of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she served as President of the Women of the Church in 1973, and had been an active member of St. Catherine's Guild and St. Martha's Guild. She took great delight in meeting with the "Tuesday's" and "Friday's" sewing groups, in reading her Bible and devotionals daily. She excelled in avidly supporting her husband's love of music, whether he was performing in local theatre, opera guild, Schumann Music Club, or the choir at St. Paul's. She took pleasure in preparing meals for others and making almost any occasion a lovely experience. Catherine loved the Lord, her family, friends and church life. We return that love and are grateful to God for her life, love, fortitude, feisty attitude, mischievous sense of humor, wisdom and encouragement. The last five years of her life she was constrained to dance with Dementia; the last five months of which were the most challenging for her to keep in step. However, through it all, Catherine was able to maintain her strong sense of emotion and love and at times was able to respond to those around her with tender love. The family thanks the staff at Westminster Village and Bay Ridge at Westminster for their continuous care and love for Catherine. A memorial service celebrating the life of Catherine C. Godwin is planned to take place Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Chapel at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Prelude music honoring Catherine and Bob Godwin's love for music is set to begin at 12:45 PM and the memorial liturgy is to begin at 1:15 PM. A reception for friends and family to greet one another is planned to be held in the church Parish Hall immediately following the conclusion of the service. A private graveside service for family is planned.
