Billy R. Mosley was born on April 25, 1937, in Gilbertown, Alabama, to Hubert and Clara Mosley. A resident of Mobile for 56 years, Bill passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025. Bill graduated from Choctaw County High School in 1955 and attended the University of Alabama. While in school, he met and married his wife of nearly 53 years, Ginny, who loved him dearly. After marrying Ginny, Bill went on to pursue his medical career, attending the University of Alabama Medical School and spending a year at Harvard Medical School before graduating in 1962. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Florida and his urology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as chief resident from 1966-1967. After completing his medical training, Bill joined the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Major during the Vietnam War. In 1969, Bill moved to Mobile and joined Dr. William Cooner, and together they established Mobile Urology Group. Bill practiced with this group for 33 years and served as a past President of the Alabama Urological Society. Bill once said that the most rewarding part of his life was practicing medicine, but a close second was watching his trees grow.
Bill’s love for the outdoors and the woods was boundless. He purchased his first tract of land in 1972 and devoted much of his time to growing his timberland business in Bladon Springs, Alabama. He was a dedicated member of the Forest Landowners Association, Alabama Forestry Association, and Alabama Forest Owners’ Association. Even after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Bill remained determined to live life to the fullest. He enjoyed playing in his weekly golf group and loved spending time in the woods in Bladon Springs. At 78 years old, he married his 2nd wife, Ann Carwie, and together they shared nine happy years. Bill loved his family, medicine, the outdoors, golf, fishing, hunting, and Alabama football. He was a faithful member of Spring Hill Baptist Church for the past 56 years. Bill was a man of incredible character and integrity, who valued honesty, wisdom, and hard work. He loved the land and growing trees, and he was still going to the country regularly to check on his timberland, even until the last week of his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Amacker Mosley.
He is survived by his children, Emily Lyons (Brooks) and Lyles Mosley; his wife, Ann Carwie Mosley; his siblings, Marie Whigham, Allen Mosley, and Jack Mosley; seven grandchildren, Parker Wepasnick (Zack), Will Glass, Ellis Harty (Ryan), Lyles Mosley, Jr., Nicholas Mosley, Justin Mosley (Jasmine), and Caitlin Mosley; three great-grandchildren, Will, Jane, and Perry Wepasnick; and by Ann’s three children and seven grandchildren.
The family kindly requests that, in place of flowers, donations be made to support the restoration of Bladon Springs Baptist Church or to the Parkinson’s Association of Alabama.
