She was born in 1928 in Linden, Alabama to Frank and Zell Etheridge. She eloped and married the love of her life, Ralph Cecil Harrington, Sr, who preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She made holidays and family gatherings special, especially at the infamous “Hannon Avenue” home.
Barbara retired from Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in 1996 as admitting supervisor for the evening shift. She was known as a lady with class, style, and a lot of feistiness! Barbara embraced retirement by gardening and going to her favorite place, “The Boats.”
Barbara was proudest of her family. Preceded in death was her son, Ralph C Harrington, Jr and grandson, Joseph Stephen Dorsey II. Surviving children are: Harry (Mary) Harrington, Shirley H Jacobs, Pamela (Gene) Dorsey, and Laura Harrington (Daughter In Law). Surviving grandchildren are: Norman Harrington (Jenny), Ginny Geary, Brad (Stacey) Harrington, Stephanie (John) Price, Stacey (Marc) Capogrossi, Banks (Charles) McLain, Holt Jacobs, and Carly Dorsey. Other surviving family members are: 12 great grandchildren, multiple nephews and nieces.
The Harrington family welcomes you to celebrate Barbara Harrington’s life with them at a Graveside Service on 1/27/21 at 11:00 in Pine Crest Cemetery, Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama. Twenty to thirty minute early arrival is suggested.
