Barbara Helen Coleman (86) passed peacefully into Eternal Life on Friday, the 4th of August at her home. Her cousins, Deborah and Melinda Ross of Pensacola, were with Barbara at her passing. A native of Mobile, Barbara was born on August 8, 1936, to William and Adelaide Matthews Coleman. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and the Convent of Mercy Academy. Barbara worked in the banking industry for over 50 years.
Barbara loved her Catholic faith. She had a deep devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus, who is known as the Patron Saint of the Impossible. Barbara was an inspiration to all who knew her and was loved and admired by many. She shared her love for God through her radiant, endearing smile.
Barbara loved good food and socializing. Her hobbies and interests included sewing, playing cards, reading, and crossword puzzles. Barbara enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She was always sitting on ready at the first mention of a trip. Always positive and independent, Barbara will be remembered for her charming Southern Belle accent as she would reassure her family and friends that “I’m fine, I’m okay, everything is fine, I’m alright, and I declare!”
Barbara is survived by her cousins, Deborah and Melinda Ross, Lynn Cone, and Kathy Summer.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, William and Adelaide Matthews Coleman and her first cousin, Rollin (Kathy) Ross, who she lovingly called R.S. Being only children Barbara and Rollin were like brother and sister.
The family would like to thank Lequita Curtis for her devotion to Barbara as caregiver. She was truly an Angel sent by God to love and care for Barbara in her final months. We would also like to thank Covenant Care Hospice for their compassionate care.
Barbara’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 11th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1453 Old Shell Road in Mobile. Visitation and Rosary will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Interment is at Magnolia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Covenant Care Hospice of Mobile.
Radney Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
