Anna Belle Little Newman – born April 12th 1929, passed away at her home January 31st 2018. She was a 10th generation Mobilian and a child of the depression. Preceded in death by her parents William Nethery Little and Cecelia Cleveland Little and her brother William Nethery Little, Jr (Billy). Survived by her four children, Cecelia King, Sandy Newman (Kathy), Nancy Newman, William Newman (Patricia) and her six grandchildren J.W. Engblom, Nethery Engblom, Lucy Newman, Margaret Newman, Tanner Newman, and Emiko Newman. A.B., as her grandchildren called her, graduated from Murphy High School and attended the University of Alabama. In 1988 at age sixty she successfully ran for public office, proudly serving for three terms as General Administrator of Mobile County before her retirement at age 80. Anna Belle was an active member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church, and served on boards of Art Patrons League (charter member), Mobile Kiwanis Club, Murray House, Salvation Army Women’s and Children Shelter, Friends of Old Mobile, and was a member of d’Iberville chapter DAR, Colonial Dames of the 7th Century, and The Jamestown Society. Memorial services will be held at St Paul’s Episcopal Church at 10 o’clock Saturday morning February 3rd, 2018, followed by a reception at the Church. Anna Belle was never wrong and rarely in doubt.
