Allen Eugene "Gene" Honeycutt

Allen Eugene "Gene" Honeycutt, born February 17, 1926, in Bessemer, AL and a resident of Mobile since 1932, died March 7, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Herbert and Elizabeth Hill Honeycutt, and the one and greatest love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Mary Jo Minto Honeycutt. Gene and Mary Jo were married in 1949, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Mobile, where he has been a lifelong parishioner. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Elizabeth Hutchinson (Martin Adams), Sally Anne Inzina (Mike), and Mary Gene Connolly (Paul), and his sons, Allen, Jr. and Walter H. Honeycutt (Shannon). He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren: Matthew King (Christi), Stacey Shipman (T.C.), Hayley Hutchinson (James Doss), Adam E. Inzina (Michelle), Erin and Casie Connolly, and Samuel Honeycutt; 7 great-grandchildren, Harper and Riley King, Stella and Sophia Shipman, and Anthony, Anne Marie, and Jacob Inzina; his brother, Colonel F.H. "Bo" Honeycutt, USMC, Retired (Elizabeth); nephew, Kenneth Honeycutt; niece, Lisa Replogle (Brian); in-laws, Edward and Mary Minto, Michael and Irene Minto, Richard and Lois Ann Minto, Anne Heggeman, and Betty Minto; and a host of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to his caregiver and "coffee buddy," Elaine Schreiner. Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II having been a top turret gunner in an attack bomber. He was awarded 5 Air Medals, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 3 battle stars, American Defense, American theater Medal, Victory medal, and several others. During Korea, he received a commission in the Army and served in the 108th AAA AW Battalion as Commanding Officer of Headquarters Battery. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Monday, March 9, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.
