Mrs. Ada Morgan Bennett - a long time resident of Mobile, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Mobile Infirmary at the age of 97. A member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, she taught in the public schools of Alabama for 32 years, and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa honorary teacher’s sorority. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. A native of Dallas County, her family came to the Alabama Territory from North Carolina in 1816, and were among the eight founders of Valley Creek Church, the first Presbyterian church in what was to become the state of Alabama. Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husband, George Blake Bennett, Sr.; her parents, John Lewis Morgan, Sr. and Vesta Crawford Morgan; two sisters, Ola Morgan Lloyd and Mary Morgan Rountree; and one brother, John Lewis Morgan, Jr. Survivors include a son, George Blake Bennett, Jr. (Linda) of Apex, NC; two grandchildren, Stacey Bennett Pearce (Bryan) of Mobile and George Blake Bennett, III (Autumne) of Cary, NC; and one great-grandson, Bennett McIntosh Pearce of Mobile. Visitation will be Sunday, March 13, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street. Graveside service will be Monday, March 14, at 2:00 p.m. in Garden Hills Cemetery, 1218 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL, where Mrs. Bennett will be interred next to her late husband.
