Jerry Walters of Mission Viejo, affectionately known as "Coach," passed away on Sunday March 11, 2018. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, where he attended Glendale High School
Jerry enlisted in the Navy in 1953 and served four years. Upon completing service in 1957 he attended Glendale Jr. College and worked for Tidewater Oil in Oregon for a year.
In 1961 he married Linda, attended Cal State L.A. where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree and later earned his teaching credentials. He then went on to teach at Clark Jr. High School, Crescenta Valley High School, Tustin High School and Mission Viejo High School, where he taught and coached for 22 years. He taught social science, health, history, geography and driver's training as well as coached football, softball, wrestling, Little League and Bobby Sox. Jerry was also a large supporter of all sports, especially those at UCLA and USC.
Jerry loved to travel and cruise, especially anywhere there was a beach. He and his family and friends spent summers at Lake Tahoe for over 30 years. "Coach" loved to body surf, boogie board, play golf and tennis and enjoyed his daily workouts. He was also an avid reader of books on history, biographies and action.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 1/2 years, Linda; daughter Wendy; daughter-in-law Kim; granddaughters Kelsey and Keira and twin sister Maryann. He was preceded in death by his son Keith and brothers Billy, Richard and Duane.
All are welcome to celebrate Jerry's life. Services will be held at the Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, 24772 Chrisanta Dr., Mission Viejo on April 8 at 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life immediately following at the church.
