He was raised to be honest, caring and friendly. He couldn’t help but capture everyone’s attention with just his look. George appeared to be quiet and mysterious until you got to know him. Really, he was easy going and very generous with his time and would give you the shirt off his back.
George loved sharing life and having his home filled with family and people he knew. Some of his best friends were Robert Steffen, Bob Sewick, Ed Craig, George the Greek, and Ken Matte.
As a kid and into adulthood George took part in sports, his favorite to watch and play were baseball, football, and basketball. He was also good at pitching pennies and playing craps.
It could be said that for George, grades may not have been the most important thing to him, experience was George's best teacher. He enjoyed hands-on learning and applying the “practical” approach to knowledge, rather than getting caught up in “theory.” George graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. His favorite subjects in high school were physical education, woodshop, leather tooling and printing. George's memorable achievements included; perfect attendance awards, a certificate of merit for a school safety poster he designed, and an all-senate award in football. After high school he earned a diploma from National Radio School and a Certificate of Achievement from the Electronic Computer Programming Institute of Northeastern, Cleveland, Ohio.
On September 5, 1964 George exchanged wedding vows with Nancy Ann Kolesar at Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cleveland, Ohio. George and Nancy were blessed with three children, a son Thomas, and two daughters Lynn and Jill. George had the ability to focus his attention on the present moment. If he was spending time with you, that’s where all of his attention was directed.
At work, as in life, George effectively used his common sense and trust in his experience to get through the day. He was down to earth, hard-working, and an excellent problem solver. His primary occupation the last 32 years before retirement in 2008 was a Customer Service Representative for new home builders.
George enjoyed his leisure time working on home projects and anyone that knew George knew they could find anything they needed for their home or project in George’s garage. He also loved to go grocery shopping, cooking, gardening, working crossword puzzles, drinking beer and hanging out with family and friends.
George recognized that his faith was important to him throughout his life. He was a member of Saint Luke Orthodox Church for 47 years.
Naturally generous, George was regularly doing things for others. For him, the gift of giving to others was second nature. He never set out to gain individual recognition.
It is no surprise that he loved to travel anywhere there was a casino but his favorite type of travel was usually local and involved taking scenic drives with the family.
George passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on September 11, 2022. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Thomas, daughters Lynn and Jill, nephews Anthony and Richard, nieces Jeannine, Joanne, Susan, Jennifer and Pamela.
George brought joy to all of those around him. He never had a mean bone in his body. He loved to have a good time and was an eternal optimist, always looking on the bright side of things. He loved to share his energy, wit, and his zest for all of his activities with his family and friends. He will be remembered with a smile.
