After relocating to Los Angeles, CA in 1946, she graduated from John C. Fremont High School in 1960.
On November 3, 1961, she married Milton Hayes Jr. Through this union she was blessed with the birth of her first two children, Darrick and Sherrell Hayes. Emmalene later met and married LeRoy Nichols III, originally of Flint, MI, and had another son, LeRoy Nichols IV.
Throughout the 70’s and 80’s, while living in Los Angeles, CA, Emmalene broke barriers working in the defense industry as a manufacturing supervisor. After relocating to Riverside, CA, she soon began working as a life coach for special needs adults.
Emmalene was firm believer in Christ and lived her life by his guidance. She enjoyed jewelry making, gardening, and fishing whenever life allowed. Most recently she found joy in watching her grandchildren grow up. Her legendary cooking, though, is what many will remember most.
On May 7th, 2021, in Rancho Mission Viejo, CA, Emmalene Nichols made her transition, following a near decade long cancer diagnosis. Throughout the course of her fight, the strength and courage with which she faced the challenge was and is inspiring.
Preceding her in passing are: her father Charles White; mother Fay Frederick Smith-White; sister Francile Marie Davis; brother Danny Early White; and her husband, LeRoy Nichols III.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children and their spouses: Darrick & Monica Hayes, Sherrell Hayes, and LeRoy & Karen Nichols; sister: Gloria Henderson; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Emmalene is under the care of Fairhaven Memorial Services.
Burial at Riverside National Cemetery will be held on June 4, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA.
