Dave was born on February 17, 1954 in San Bernardino, CA, an only child who was raised by his adoring grandparents for the first 8 years of his life. He worked in the restaurant industry his entire life, starting out as a busboy at the age of 15. He was quickly given the opportunity to move into restaurant management, and by the age of 18, he moved to Seattle WA where he spent the next several years. Dave returned to Southern California to work for the Charley Brown’s restaurant chain as a restaurant manager, eventually being promoted to a corporate position overseeing the roll-out and maintenance of the then new Point-of-Sale system. His position soon expanded to include staff and manager training and various finance functions. He later went on to be instrumental in the start-up of Noble Restaurant Group, responsible for corporate operations until his retirement in 2019.
Dave met the love of his life, Richard Bautzer, in 1998 and quickly knew he’d found his life partner. Their 26-year relationship was built on love, respect, and humor. Their shared interests included a love of musical theater, cruises, and trips to Las Vegas. Dave especially loved to cook and bake, a skill immensely enjoyed by his many friends. The passage of Prop 8 in California in 2008 allowed Dave and Richard to finally legally marry in December that same year. Shortly afterward, they rescued a puggle they named Mazel, who quickly became the missing part of their family, the “daughter” they never had.
Dave is survived by his loving husband, Richard, of Mission Viejo CA, along with many friends who loved and cherished him for his quick wit and quiet presence.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Dave’s honor.
