Rosendo Garcia Jr was born in Harlingen, Texas, on December 4th, 1951, to Rosendo Garcia Sr. and Elena Pena Garcia. He passed away peacefully at his home in McAllen, Texas, on March 22, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children. He was 70 years old. He is now in the presence of the Lord, preceded in death by his father Rosendo, mother Elena, and sisters Elizabeth Garcia and Herlinda (Pablo) Rojas. He faced his illness with dignity, grace, and faith, and the entire family is proud of him.
Growing up in a hard working migrant family, Rosendo learned the value of having a good work ethic he would carry the rest of his life. He graduated from San Benito High School in 1971. There, he met the love of his life, Emma Chavez, and the two were married in 1974. After graduating from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering in 1977, they would return home to the Valley and raise a family in McAllen, Texas, being blessed with three sons and a daughter. Rosendo retired after an accomplished 33 year career with the Texas Department of Transportation, holding various engineering positions including Pharr District Director of Construction. In retirement, he enjoyed many years with his favorite title of “Grandpa” to eight grandchildren that adored him.
Rosendo is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Emma Garcia, 4 children: Rosendo Garcia III, Gabriel Isaac (Monica) Garcia, Daniel Aaron (Brenda) Garcia, and Melissa Marie (Victor) Myers, 8 grandchildren: Joshua Jordan Garcia, Matthew Jacob Garcia, Natalia Faith Garcia, Daniel Aaron Garcia Jr., Gabriel Isaac Garcia Jr., Lincoln Thomas Myers, Holly Elizabeth Myers, and Giuliana Grace Garcia, and 8 siblings: Diana (Juan) Alvarado, Sara (Alberto) Morales, Arecelia (Tony) Aguilar, Maria Elena Ramirez, Israel (Anna) Garcia, Dalia (Reynaldo) Cantu, Jorge (Lillian) Garcia, and Jaime (Patti) Garcia. He is also survived by numerous extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and others.
Pallbearers will be Rosendo Garcia III, Gabriel Isaac Garcia, Daniel Aaron Garcia, Victor Thomas Myers, Joshua Jordan Garcia, Matthew Jacob Garcia, Mario Eduardo Hernandez, and Nathan Garcia.
The family would like to thank the team of doctors at DHR who attended to him over the last year. Special thanks to: Dr Atassi, Dr. Drinkard, Dr. Garcia, various ICU nurses, infusion nurses, lab technician Memo, DHR Radiology staff, and countless others who were part of his care. Thank you to the staff of DHR Hospice care, very caring nurses Noe and Alicia, and CNA Yoli. And special recognition also to his long time primary care physician, Dr. Daniel Guerra and the team at Family Physicians Clinic in McAllen.
