Petra Gonzalez

McAllen – Petra S. Gonzalez, born June 28, 1928 in McAllen, Texas left her beloved family to be in a better place with The Lord in Heaven on August 28, 2014 at Briarcliff Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Pablo Gonzalez and the daughter of the late Joaquin and Guadalupe Sanchez. Mrs. Gonzalez lived in McAllen almost all her life.

She was a homemaker whose life revolved around her family. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother. She emphasized education to her children and participated in their homework and school P.T.A. She was a home room mother who baked delicious cakes for school fund raisers. They were the first to be sold.

Petra is survived by her children Irma (Ray) Johnson, Jesse (Cande) Gonzalez, Blanca (Tom+) Kirkman, Juan Gonzalez, Irene (Charlie) Vasquez, Anna (John) Gaytan and Rose Gonzalez-Smith(Gael). Also surviving her are 12 grandchildren: Jeff (Rosario) Trantham, Carlos Eduardo Vasquez, Patty Vasquez (Hector), Jesus (Iris) Vasquez, Angelica Marie (Gabriel) Farias, Johnathan, Joshua and Joseph Gaytan, Lisa, Lucinda, Sandra and Susan Gonzalez. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren: Brianna Vasquez, Leo and Angel Farias, Emma Vasquez-Lucio and Marcos Gil.

Pallbearers will be sons-in-law Ray Johnson and Gael Smith and grandsons Jeff Trantham, Carlos E. Vasquez, Jesus Vasquez and Johnathan Gaytan. Honorary pallbearers will be sons Jesse and Juan Gonzalez.

Special thanks to Petra’s caregiver, Dalia Rios, who took care of her at Briarcliff with love and tenderness.

Viewing was held at Funeraria Del Angel, 3611 N. Taylor Rd. Mission, TX from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held today, August 30, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church(Downtown) in McAllen at 9:00 am. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery on North Taylor Road. Services are under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel of Mission.
