Born in Everett, Washington, Mrs. Pamela Guerra was an enthusiastic cheerleader for Rio Grande City High School. She was a graduate of Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas and earned a Master’s degree at Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas. Pamela was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an International Society for key Women Educators. Mrs. Guerra worked as a special education Coordinator for McAllen ISD.
After retiring from McAllen, Pamela taught at UT-Pan American in the Undergraduate Special Education program, preparing future teachers. As a “hostess with the mostess”, she warmly opened her home for end of the semester parties for her students.
Pamela and her husband, Luis raised three children in McAllen, Texas. She was a friend to her neighbors and was loved by all. As an avid gardener, she brought beauty to the neighborhood with big trees, ferns, and bluebonnets in an immaculate yard.
She happily lived the last five years at The Gardens at Brook Ridge in Pharr, Texas, where she made many friends-among them, Mike, Horacio, Eileen, Shirley, and Roberta. She served as Welcome Ambassador for new residents, always offering a friendly smile and reassured them about all the opportunities at their new home at The Gardens. She will be remembered for her loving voice, easy smile, and lending ear to members of The Gardens family.
The consummate teacher, Pamela wanted to keep learning and share that knowledge with others. She held presentations about Japanese woodblock prints, before her passing, she was preparing a class about artist Frida Kahlo. While at The Gardens, she continued her hostess tradition and would arrange for tamales and cookies to be brought in for
the staff in December and her favorite, mango paletas, in the summer. Pamela’s family is thankful for the care and attention provided by the staff at The Gardens.
Mrs. Pamela Guerra is preceded in death by her loyal husband, Luis Guerra Jr., son Robert Luis Guerra, brother Bobby Ireland, mother Esther Seaburg, and father Robert Ireland.
She is survived by her daughters Luna Waverly of Austin, Texas and Mae (Frederick) Engle of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren- Mia Bethlee Gleinser, Lily Marie Gleinser, Caiden Michael Rohr, and Luke Frederick Engle; sisters Colleen (Jose +) Martinez, Patsy Ireland, Roxanne (Jose Maria) Barrera, and numerous nieces and nephews.
