Juanita was born November 14, 1928, in Comonfort, Gto., Mexico, daughter of Eulalio Espinoza and Gregoria Anaya. She moved to the McAllen area along with her mother and 5 siblings in the mid-1940s after the death of her father in Mexico City; she met and later married her beloved husband, Eulojio J. Garcia (nicknamed “Toto”) in 1945; and lived in Pharr since then. She was a merchant running a grocery store and meat market during the early 1940s through the early 1970s, worked as a nurse at a local hospital in San Juan, Tx., later in the 1970s opened and ran a convenience store and liquor store before retiring at the age of 63. She helped raise her siblings during the 1940s and watched most go off to war and thankfully return. She had one son, (Juan Garcia, local McAllen banker) and after the death of her husband in 1981 assumed the role of mother and father guiding her son through life and being his biggest supporter and advocate.
She was an avid seamstress and made wonderful knitting and crochet items which she frequently give away to friends and family. Enjoyed gardening and cooking – making the best pan dulce and tamales. She liked raising animals especially chickens and goats as well as caring for canaries. When she was younger she enjoyed dancing and traveling with her husband throughout Mexico. Always religious she attended church almost every weekend, prayed the rosary every day and collected and gave away rosaries to those she felt were in need. In later years she enjoyed traveling with her son to new places (Las Vegas, D.C., San Diego, Houston, and New Orleans) going on her first flight in her early 70s.; going to church together and having dinner at Luby’s (her favorite eatery).
