Juan Solis, Jr. passed away into eternal rest on April 10, 2014 at Starr County Memorial Hospital in Rio Grande City, Texas as his family prayed the rosary and his beloved grandchildren held his hand. Juan was born in La Grulla, Texas on August 31, 1935 to Juan Solis and Dolores Saenz Solis. He graduated from Rio Grande City High School in 1954 and remained very close to all of his classmates until he became ill. Juan was an avid sports enthusiast who held the distinction of being the first Rio Grande City High School football player to earn all-state honors , which he proudly spoke of often. He was a member of the RGC Quarterback Club and passionately followed the Rio Grande City Rattlers all his life. He was a servant of the Lord and a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Serra Club. Upon graduation, Juan declined a football scholarship to join the United States Army. He proudly served his country from 1954 to 1956 and was an active member of the VFW post in Rio Grande City. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister Maria Elia Solis Gonzalez and his cherished brother Jesus Alberto Solis. He was the proud patriarch of his family and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Epitacia Salas Solis, his high school sweetheart. He is also survived by his cherished daughters, Adriana Letty (Javier) Rodriguez and Ana Lisa Solis and his three prides and joys, his grandchildren Javier (Yesenia) Rodriguez, Jr., Lamar Rodriguez, and John Albert Rodriguez and his great grand children Danica Rodriguez and Javier Rodriguez, III. Juan was a devoted grandfather who attended any and every sporting and school event involving his grand children. He is also survived by his sisters Silvina Solis Hinojosa, Maria Nela Solis Sanchez, and Maria Dolores Solis Gomez and his sister in law Amanda Jackson Solis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends today, Friday, April 11, 2014 from 3-9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel, 3611 N. Taylor Rd., Mission Texas 78573. Funeral service will be held Saturday April 12, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City, Texas. Interment will follow to St. John's Cemetery in Rio Grande City, Texas.
