Concepcion L. Matamoros passed away on November 26, 2022, after a long battle with dementia. She was 89 years old. Concepcion was a pillar of strength for her family, especially her grandchildren. To her friends and neighbors, she was a thoughtful and generous soul––always willing to lend a helping hand or a warm meal. A devoted Christian, she loved to sing and read the Bible. Concepcion will forever be a symbol of faith, love, and strength to her family—whom she was very proud of and loved deeply.
Concepcion was born in Hidalgo Tamaulipas, Mexico on November 16, 1933, to Efrain Luna DeLeon and Leandra Limas. She moved to Weslaco, Texas, in 1957, where she met her husband, Faustino Matamoros (Tino). They married on August 19, 1966, and relocated to Salinas, California, where she worked for Bud of California and Harden Farms until she retired in 1984 to care for her grandchildren. She became a citizen of the United States in 1994. Concepcion, known as “Connie” to many of her friends, was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Salinas, California, and Iglesia Bautista Getsemani in McAllen, Texas, where she relocated to in 1999 to be closer to family. Connie and Tino were happily married for 43 years until Tino’s untimely death in 2009.
Concepcion is survived by her four children Jesus Perez Luna (Rebeca), Conchita Gamboa (+Reynaldo), Ruthe Perez, Leandra Varela (Luis), fifteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, four great, great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, 1 sister and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her beloved husband: Faustino Matamoros; son: Robert Phillips; grandson: Jesus Perez Limas; parents, Efrain Luna DeLeon and Leandra Limas, siblings: Felipe, Efrain, Guadalupe, Esther, Ninfa, and Aldegunda.
Concepcion will be laid to rest on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Funeraria Del Angel in Mission, Texas. A viewing will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 3-9 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Viewing will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 9 a.m. with interment to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission at 11 a.m.
