Norman D. "Stormin' Norman" Redlich was born July 5, 1927, to Esther and Michael Redlich, in Plainfield, New Jersey, and he grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. He graduated from Paterson Eastside High School in January of 1944, and started college at Newark College of Engineering, now called New Jersey Tech. He enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air Corps at 17, but was not called to active duty until he was 18. The call to active duty came one day before the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. He served in the Occupation forces in Germany, and stayed in the Army-Air Corps Reserves, holding the rank of Sergeant, and earning the nickname "Stormin' Norman". After the military, he went back to College at Columbia University, and earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degrees in Industrial Engineering. He received commission as Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force Reserves after receiving the degrees, and transferred to Inactive Reserves in the rank of Captain. In 1951, he married Carol, the love of his life. He was a brilliant man, and worked in aerospace for most of his career. Some of the programs he worked on were: On Board Computer for Minuteman ballistic missile; Avionics system for F-111 Aircraft, Apollo program; Space Shuttle; Spacelab experiments; Communication satellites and Control Consoles for Drones. In 1960, they moved to Orange County, CA, and became active in the synagogue they joined, and he was elected President of Temple Beth Sholom, in Santa Ana, CA. He made some of his dearest friends there, The O.C. Bunch, who still hang together to this day. He was appointed Vice President of Southwest Region of Union of American Hebrew Congregations, now the Union for Reform Judaism.
They moved back to New Jersey after 23 years in Orange County; and came back to Woodland Hills, CA after one year in New Jersey. He retired from TRW in 1991. After retirement, he gave seminars on "Cost estimating for government contracts", for 3 years. Seminars were both domestic and international with Norm's wife, Carol, accompanying him, on the international trips, which included London, Paris, Rome, Munich, Tel Aviv, Honolulu, and Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. He was very popular, no one else could teach the way he did.
His wife of almost 60 years, Carol, pre-deceased him, along with his sister and parents. He is survived by his two daughters, Fawn and Michele; his two grandsons, Jason and Evan; and his fur-granddog, Lavender Doodle. Jason and Evan made him a very proud and happy grandfather.
