Mary V. Navarro Mother of two, Grandmother of four, Great Grandmother of two and, teacher of many. She was the greatest mom. Working to carve out a life for her and for us, her children, as a single mother. She was born on April 15th (tax day) 1928 to father Joe Villa and mother Nellie Villa. The family grew quite large to include siblings Sal, Bobby, Joe, Virgie, Rachel, Becky, and Peaches (the baby of the family). Mary graduated from Gilroy Union High School and then later in life from Los Angeles Mission College. In her younger life she worked various jobs at a garlic factory (in Gilroy), a fruit canning facility and other odd jobs. She worked many years as a cosmetologist then owning her own beauty shop. Mary went back to school to become a cosmetology instructor eventually working for many years at West Valley Occupational Center in the Cosmetology Department after a few private teach positions. She was always so kind to everyone and had many personal and professional friends. During her teaching days it was impossible to go out with her and not meet someone she knew. It was always “Hi Mary!” , or “Is that you Mrs. Navarro?”. We were constantly stopping to offer greetings to somebody. She moved from Van Nuys to West Hills to Canoga Park to Thousand Oaks to Lancaster, always making friends wherever she lived. (she moved to Lancaster a couple of times…) Family was such an important part of her life. She loved to socialize at a family party and get together with family members for shopping or lunch. If she was going out shopping it was usually for a pair of shoes. Her final move to Lancaster was so that she could spend more time with her sisters who she loved so dearly. She will be remembered as having a great sense of humor and always willing to help someone when she could. Mary always had a dog. Suki, Ginger, and Molly come to mind as a few of the dogs she had later in life. She gave and received companionship with them. There are too many stories to tell here, but they were always happy and filled with love and laughter. She will be missed but will live on in our minds and hearts. You are now with God. It is not goodbye, but “I’ll see you later”… With great amounts of Love, Your Family
