Marvin Coleman Bluebond was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 2, 1927, the youngest of the four children of Herman and Frances Smith Bluebond. He moved with his family to Hollywood, California, in 1941, and graduated from Hollywood High School before enlisting in the Navy in World War II, where he served as a printer on an aircraft carrier in the North Atlantic. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946 and married his beloved wife Elaine, who passed in April of 2022 after almost 74 years of marriage. He is survived by his younger daughter, the Honorable Sheri Bluebond, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Central District of California. He was predeceased by his older daughter, Wendy Hiller Bluebond, who died in a car accident in 1979.
Marvin was always full of life, love and joy and had a quick wit that he shared liberally. He was the perfect person to seat at a party next to a someone who didn’t know how to make conversation, as he never met a person he couldn’t or wouldn’t enjoy getting to know. He met Elaine at a “Pistol Packin’ Mama” dance while they were attending Hollywood High School and the two enjoyed ballroom dancing, swing dancing, square dancing and round dancing for many years until knee and ankle problems forced him to leave the dance floor in his later years. He was charming and charismatic, and an excellent salesperson, and used these talents to establish a insurance agency with Elaine in the 1970s that eventually blossomed into a highly successful enterprise. He was fiercely devoted to his family, which included the many pets that they adopted and cherished over the years. He will be sorely missed, but we are grateful that we were able to have his presence in our lives for as long as we did.
A funeral and graveside service for Marvin will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Groman Eden Mortuary, 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills, CA 91345.
