He was born in Chicago, IL on December 10, 1927, the son of Samuel and Anna (nee Herzon), and predeceased by his sister Norma Lee Schwied. Having grown up in poverty during the Great Depression, he was well-acquainted with adversity. Rather than allowing hardship to be an excuse for failure, it fueled his success, drive, and achievements.
As a young man, David Lehman honorably served in the Navy toward the end of WWII. Following his service, he attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier in Chicago, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He further specialized with a certificate degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, completing his internship at Kings County Hospital in Queens, NY. His 14-year higher educational journey culminated with residency training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Lehman began a 30-year private practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Joliet, Illinois. He dedicated himself to the community, providing skillful and compassionate care. He developed a prodigious reputation, known for his warmth and compassion toward all his patients.
Dr. Lehman lived life to the fullest, embracing his many passions wholeheartedly. His favorite sport was golf, and he played every day after retiring to Florida. He also enjoyed running, weight training, and was a talented artist. True to his character, he pursued all his interests with the same dedication and excellence that defined his education and career. In his later years, he even completed daily crossword puzzles meticulously, never leaving a single space empty.
David was preceded in death by his ex-wife and later in life, dear friend, Harriett (nee Goroway). They were the loving parents of three children: Steven Lehman, Gregory Lehman, and Kimberly (Lawrence) Turner, four grandchildren: Alexander Turner, Paige (Aaron) Hodes, Sarah (Gabriel) Riekhof, and Sophie Turner, and one great grandchild, Shane Hodes.
