With sadness, the family of Annie “Nancy” McCormick (nee Cassidy) passed away peacefully on Monday, December 27th, at the age of 83. Nancy was born on August 18th, 1938 in Ballymote, Co. Sligo, Ireland.
Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Adrian, her daughters, Colleen (Dave) and Maureen (Paul), and son Sean (Melisa). Nancy is also survived by grandchildren Kieran, Sian, Cassidy (Cassie), Jake, Luke, Lily, Carson and Taylor. She also leaves brothers Jerry, Joseph, Teddy and Raphael, and sister, Sr. Rosie Cassidy.
She was predeceased by her parents, Terrance and Theresa Cassidy, her brothers Kevin and Tony, and her sister, Sr. Veronica Cassidy.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 31st, at 11 am at St. Joseph’s Parish in Mission. Cremation and internment will take place at a later date with immediate family.
Nancy was a strong and adventurous woman who was a bit ahead of her time-immigrating from Ireland at young age, raising 3 children while working full time and taking up running and other fitness activities. Nancy was an exemplary teacher and enjoyed a career that spanned almost 40 years. She developed cherished and lifelong friendships over these years. In her retirement, she and Adrian travelled the world together with old and new friends along the way. Nancy valiantly battled Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia over the past six years. Despite these challenges her feistiness and humor remained with her to the end. Her family takes comfort in the fact that she is now at peace.
If family and friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
