Bill “Jr.” grew up in Monroe (Union County, NC) with his parents William Sr. and Thelma and his sister Annette. At about the age of 11, Jr; as most that knew him at that time called him, was baptized in the Christian faith. After graduating from Walter Bickett High School, Jr. enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed at Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico, Bill met Heida “Puchi” Fradera. On Easter Sunday, April 18th 1954 Bill married the love of his life. Bill and Puchi were married for 66 years before Puchi’s passing in November 2020. After Bill’s honorable discharge in 1954, they moved back to Union County where Bill used his VA Education and training allowance to get his Associates degree in Accounting.
From 1955 to 1957, Bill worked for Conrad & Company CPA’s during the day, while going to Kings Business College at night. Bill’s employment folder from Conrad & Company read: Reason for leaving – Better Future.
The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company provided Bill with that future. From accounting department trainee in 1957 to Director Financial Operations in 1975, Group Controller in 1981 and full retirement in 1986.
Bill was not ready to call it quits, so he looked for a new job or business venture. He got both. Chief Financial Operator of Murray Distributing, a specialty food distributorship in Indian Trail, and the purchase of Wilson Tax Service in February 1987.
Over the next thirty-one years, Bill and his son David operated Rollins & Rollins, Accountants in Matthews. Bill’s wife Heida was an integral part to the success of our tax seasons and loved to meet the clients. Bill’s son, William Timothy, also worked from 2000 until his death in 2010.
Bill loved his “Puchi” and was always grateful for her being the mother of his four boys. He enjoyed a game of golf with his sons, watching his granddaughters grow up & accomplish so much and to see each of them get married and have children of their own.
While resting in the assisted living center, nothing brought a bigger smile to him than seeing his great grandchildren visit and all the pictures of their growth. Bill was a hard-working family man who was simple in his needs and desires. We will miss him dearly.
Bill is survived by his three sons, Robert Michael Rollins (Janie), Salisbury, Eddie Thomas Rollins (Susan), Charlotte, David Glenn Rollins (Denise), Monroe; his granddaughters, Katie Elliott (Scott), Megan Elizabeth Rollins Coward (Dr. John) , Abigail Alexander Garlock (Cade), Dr. Angela Rollins Folger (David) , Melissa Stamatiades (Constantine) , Colleen Kamolnik (Ricardo); his great grandchildren - Alexander Benton Elliott, Susanna Elizabeth Elliott, William Hunnings Coward, Wardie Katherine Coward, Carter Hudson Kamolnik, Fletcher Jackson Kamolnik, Anna Catherine Stamatiades; his sister, Annette Helms (Charles); his brother-in-law, Edgardo Fradera (Jean); and several nieces and nephews.
